ROD CHISHOLM – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Rod has extensive experience in the Defence force, in senior management and operations roles with a large multi-national in Australasia and the Middle East and more recently with consulting on both capital and maintenance projects in both public and private sectors. He has qualifications in management and strategy together with an abiding life-long interest in regenerative farming and land care that originated from dairying in Victoria’s Western District in his youth. He aims to boost our production of good, relevant case studies, strengthen our networks and share the know-how.
RICHARD THACKWAY – RESEARCHER
Richard is a research scientist with over 30 years’ experience in classifying, assessing and reporting on Australia’s landscapes and natural resources. His research has been adopted by regional, state and national land use policy and planners and land managers. Richard is Visiting Fellow at ANU, UNSW ADFA and an Adjunct Associate Professor at UQ.
GREG HOSKING – RESEARCHER
Greg Hosking graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor degree in Forest Science. He has previously worked on wildlife research programs for the ACT Parks and Conservation Service and a Professor from The Australian National University. He is from a cattle and sheep farming background and enjoys returning to the family farm as often as possible.
NARELLE LUFF – OFFICE MANAGER AND EXECUTIVE SUPPORT
Narelle is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and worked in the health care industry for 15 years. Narelle’s work in health care spanned clinical work with patients in hospital and community settings, professional education and training. Narelle has also worked in healthcare management and holds a Master of Health Industry Management. Narelle grew up in country Victoria, in Gippsland, and has maintained a continuing interest in agriculture and rural life. Narelle has a passion for gardening particularly food production and continues to expand her skills using a variety of techniques that foster soil health .
JOHN LEGGETT – OPERATIONS MANAGER
John served 26 years in the Australian Regular Army followed by some 24 years as a management consultant for government, private and international programs. Throughout his career he has gained much experience as a senior manager, management consultant, manager educator and project manager. Since 2010, he brings this extensive management and organisational experience to his role at Soils for Life.
TERRY HARKNESS – PROJECT MANAGER
Terry is a qualified accountant (CPA) with more than 30 years’ experience in a variety of industries including manufacturing, retail, hospitality, mining and waste recycling. Moreover, he has worked as an operations/quality safety and environment manager for the green waste recycling industry and played voluntary treasury roles for Landcare Illawarra and Repower Shoalhaven.
CECILIA MOAR – MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS
Cecilia is a former farmer and resident of the North-Central, Wimmera and Mallee areas in Victoria. Awarded ABC Rural Victorian Woman of the Year, a graduate of the Australian Rural Leadership program, she sat on the boards of Telstra and the Mallee Catchment Management Authority. Cecilia has an Honours degree in Social Science from Bond University. Cecilia’s professional experience includes commercial food and fibre production, land and water stewardship, community capacity building, corporate governance, and the delivery of education and allied health services in rural, regional and remote areas of Australia.
DON MCDONOUGH – SCHOOL GARDENS
Don has been associated with Michael Jeffery for some 60 years. Upon retirement in 2009, he joined Michael Jeffery to gather soils ‘data’ for use in his initial activities in this area. On the establishment of Soils for Life, Don sought, recorded and filed soil and water information. More recently, he began managing the School Gardens Program.
